Learn To Read God’s Word With Clarity
Bible study does not have to feel confusing, rushed, or overwhelming. This page gives you a simple starting point for reading Scripture carefully, understanding what it says, and applying God’s truth in everyday life.
Slow Down First
Start by reading the passage carefully. Notice the words, the setting, the people, and what is actually being said.
Look For Meaning
Ask what the passage meant in context before jumping straight to what it means for you today.
Walk It Out
Let Scripture shape your faith, choices, habits, and the way you follow Jesus day by day.
A Clear Way To Begin
These steps are not meant to make Bible study complicated. They are meant to help you slow down, pay attention, and stay anchored in God’s Word.
Pray
Begin by asking God for wisdom, humility, and understanding as you open His Word.
Read
Read the passage more than once. Look at the words on the page before reaching for outside opinions.
Observe
Notice who is speaking, what is happening, repeated words, commands, promises, warnings, and main ideas.
Understand
Think about context. What did this passage mean when it was written, and how does it fit with Scripture?
Apply
Ask how God’s Word should shape your thoughts, faith, obedience, relationships, and daily choices.
Respond
End with prayer, worship, repentance, gratitude, or a simple next step of obedience.
Ask Better Questions As You Read
Good Bible study is not about rushing to find a clever thought. It starts with paying attention to what God has actually said.
What Does This Passage Say?
Look for the main point, repeated words, important details, commands, promises, warnings, and descriptions of God.
What Does This Passage Mean?
Consider the context, the surrounding verses, the original audience, and how the passage fits with the rest of Scripture.
What Does This Teach Me About God?
Scripture is first about God. Notice His character, His promises, His commands, His mercy, His holiness, and His truth.
How Should I Respond?
Ask what should change in your faith, thinking, obedience, prayer, worship, or daily walk with Christ.
What To Avoid When Studying Scripture
Bible study can get confusing when we pull verses out of context, rush past what the passage says, or make the text say what we already wanted it to say. That is how spiritual spaghetti happens.
A better approach is slower and steadier: read carefully, respect the context, compare Scripture with Scripture, and let God’s Word correct and shape you.
Do Not Skip Context
A verse has a place. Read what comes before and after so you understand the passage more clearly.
Do Not Rush Application
Before asking “what does this mean for me,” ask “what does this passage actually mean?”
Do Not Replace Scripture
Commentaries and study notes can help, but they should never replace careful reading of God’s Word itself.
Study With Jesus At The Center
Fourteen6 is rooted in John 14:6, where Jesus says He is the way, the truth, and the life. Bible study is not only about gaining information. It is about knowing Him, trusting Him, and walking in the life found in Him.
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”
The goal of Bible study is not just to know more facts. It is to know Christ more faithfully.
